Lundin Petroleum has started drilling a second appraisal well, 16 / 2-7, on the Avaldsnes discovery on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

The well will be drilled using the Bredford Dolphin semi-submersible drilling rig up to 2,275m below sea level.

The main focus of the well is to appraise the Avaldsnes discovery following the 16 / 2-6 discovery well in 2010 and the recent successful appraisal of well 16 / 3-4 with sidetrack 16 / 3-4A.

Drilling of the well is expected to be complete within 55 days.

The PL501 licence is operated by Lundin Petroleum, which holds a 40% interest, along with partners Statoil and Maersk Oil Norway, which hold 40% and 20%, respectively.
