Idemitsu Petroleum Norge has discovered a dry well, west of the Vega field in the North Sea.
The primary objective of wildcat well 35 / 2-1 ST2, in licence 377 S, was to prove hydrocarbons in middle Jurassic reservoir rocks, while the secondary exploration target was to prove hydrocarbons in the Cook formation from the early Jurassic Age.
The well encountered both Brent group and Cook formation reservoirs, but the data acquisition indicated that the well was dry and will now be permanently plugged and abandoned.
The well was drilled to a vertical depth of 4,773m below the sea surface. The water depth at the site is 386m.
