Petronas Carigali has made two gas discoveries offshore the west coast of Sabah, Malaysia.

Petronas owns the production sharing contract of the Samarang Asam Paya block, where the first discovery was made in the Zuhal East-1 well.

The well was spudded in water depths of 38m and reached a total depth of 2,336m to confirm the presence of gas-initially-in-place, estimated at 550bcf.

The second discovery was made in the Menggatal-1 well of block SB312, which was spudded at a depth of 204m and reached 2,100m.

The well was production-tested and flowed gas at a rate of 19mscfd through a 36 / 64in choke size, with no recorded CO2 and H2S content.

Block SB312 PSC is a joint venture between Petronas Carigali, which holds 60%, and KUFPEC Malaysia, a subsidiary of Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company, which holds the remaining interest.
