UAE-based marine company Polarcus will acquire a 3D multi-client project over an area of 1,100km² in the Barents Sea, offshore Norway.

The Bjarmeland Platform survey has been designed in conjunction with GeoPartners and Mova, and will be conducted using the Polarcus Samur vessel.

The survey will take place on the south eastern part of the platform where two small oil and gas discoveries located in blocks 7124 and 7125 on the Nyslepp Fault Complex were drilled in the late eighties by Saga Petroleum.

The wells proved the presence of hydrocarbon bearing sandstones with good reservoir properties in the Late Triassic / Early Jurassic formation of the Kapp Toscana Group.

ION Geophysical group GX Technology will be responsible for data processing at the survey which is expected to take about 60 days to complete.

Preliminary dataset will be available within one month and final migrated data is expected to be delivered before February 2012.
