McDermott International has secured a contract from Shell Offshore to provide fabrication services for its West Delta 143 C deck, jacket, piles and bridge in the Gulf of Mexico.

The WD 143 C fabrication is part of the Mars B Development, which comprises the Olympus tension leg platform, the West Boreas and South Deimos subsea development and the West Delta 143 C jacket and deck.

The Olympus host will be located in Mississippi Canyon block 807 in the Gulf of Mexico at a depth of 3,000ft and its export pipelines will be tied back to the new WD 143 C platform.

The company’s US-based engineering group will perform detailed construction engineering and load-out analysis for the 10,120t structures.

The construction engineering, procurement, fabrication and onshore mechanical work for the platform will be carried out by McDermott’s fabrication facility in Louisiana.

The first steel cut will begin later this year, with sail away of the deck to take place in the first quarter of 2013.
