Statoil has received permission from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate to drill well 16 / 2-9 S in production licence 265, in the North Sea.

The Transocean Leader drill rig will be used to drill the wildcat well 12km north-west of the 16 / 2-8 Aldous Major South well.

The permit is subject to the receipt of all permits and consents required by other authorities before drilling begins.

PL265 is owned by operator Statoil, which has a 40% interest, along with Petoro which has 30%, Det norske oljeselskap with 20% and Lundin with 10%.
