Anadarko Petroleum has made a light oil discovery at the Akasa-1 exploration well on the West Cape Three Points block, offshore Ghana.

The exploration well was drilled to a total depth of 3,920m in water depths of 1,160m and encountered 33m of high-quality, oil-bearing pay from four main Turonian-aged sand packages.

Samples indicate oil of approximately 38° API gravity.

Anadarko, which intends to preserve the Akasa-1 discovery well for future use, holds a 30.8% interest in the West Cape Three Points block with partners Kosmos Energy, Tullow Oil, Sabre Oil & Gas and Ghana National Petroleum.

The partnership also tested the Tweneboa-4 well, which indicated a sustained flow rate of approximately 3,500 barrels of condensate per day and 30mmcf per day.

The results of this test will enable the company to make development plans for the Tweneboa / Enyenra complex.
