Lundin Petroleum has begun drilling appraisal well 16 / 2-9S in production licence 265 on the Aldous Major North structure in the Norwegian North Sea.

The company will drill the well using the Transocean Leader rig up to a planned depth of 2,241m below sea level, and will target the Upper Jurassic sandstone.

Drilling is expected to be completed within 40 days.

PL 265 is owned by Lundin Petroleum with a 10% interest, along with operator Statoil Petroleum with 40%, Petoro with 30% and Det norske oljeselskap with 20%.
