Lundin Petroleum has begun drilling exploration well Mindou Marine-1 on the Marine XI block, offshore Brazzaville, Democratic Republic of Congo.
The well, which is the first of a two-to-three well programme on blocks Marine XI and XIV, will be drilled up to 3,400m below sea level using the semi-submersible drilling rig ENSCO 5003.
The main target of the well is a pre-salt Toca formation carbonate reservoir within a combination structural and stratigraphic trap.
Drilling of the well is expected to take 50 days and will fulfil the phase II drilling commitment of the licence.
Lundin Petroleum holds a 18.75% working interest in the Marine XI Congo-Brazzaville licence, which is operated by SOCO International.
