A crude oil pipeline at a Chevron-operated shallow-water platform has leaked oil into the Main Pass Area of the Gulf of Mexico.

Chevron shut down its offshore Louisiana Main Pass pipeline network due to the leak, which was caused by equipment failure at a 10in riser pipeline in Main Pass Block 299.

The company said that production of about 15,000 barrels of crude oil per day was shut down; however, partial production is expected to restart within 24 hours.

The Main Pass 299 platform connects to the Cypress Pipeline and transports 9,000 barrels of oil per day, reports Reuters.
