Statoil and its partners are to invest Nkr11bn ($1.96bn) in the installation of two new compressors at the platform of the Troll gas project, offshore Norway.

The partners include Petoro, Shell, Total and ConocoPhillips.

The installation is expected to extend gas production from the licence until 2063, according to upstreamonline.com.

When operations on Troll A platform begin in 2015, production will increase to 20 million cubic metres of gas per day until 2018 and 30 billion cubic metres per year until 2024.

The newly installed compressors will enable the preparation for a tie-in of gas from Troll West once oil production ends at the facility, which is located offshore Bergen.

The partners of the Troll A platform will also lay a new power supply cable for its auxiliary system.
