BP has said that its Valhall oil field offshore Norway will stay offline for weeks after being closed from 2 April 2009 for inspection and maintenance on the field’s pipelines.

The outage was intended to address microbacterial-related corrosion of hundreds of metres of pipelines.

The BP-operated Valhall field is situated in 70m of water in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea. It produces about 500,000 barrels of oil per day and is linked through a subsea pipeline to the Ekofisk field.

BP expects the field to pump until 2050.

The partners in the Valhall field include Enterprise Oil Norge and Hess Norge, both having a 28.09% stake each, and Total with a 15.72% stake.
