Nigerian militants have launched three attacks on installations in the Niger Delta belonging to Shell, it has been revealed.
The attacks are to increase pressure on the government and oil companies to share more oil revenues with local communities.
Shell said that it had begun to investigate the sabotage that occurred earlier in the week but declined to confirm whether production has been shut down.
The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) claimed responsibility for the damage to Shell’s pipelines at Adamakiri and Kula, both in Rivers State, and an oil field in shallow water.
