Oil Search said that is has spudded its A1-18/01 well in the Caliph prospect offshore Libya to a depth of 2,668m.

A1-18/01 is a wildcat well, operated by a Petrobas and Oil Search joint venture, designed to test the Caliph prospect, which is defined by 3D seismic data and has several target levels.

The planned total depth of the well is 4,700m and it is expected to take about 90 days to drill.

Petrobras has a majority interest of 70% and Australia’s Oil Search holds a 30% stake in the well.
