Oil and gas company Wintershall Norge has made an oil and gas discovery at a North Sea well, it has been announced.

The Wildcat well 35/12-2 was drilled in the North Sea, 10km north-east of the Fram field and 85km south-west of Floro.

The objective of the well was to prove petroleum in the Sognefjord and Fensfjord formations in Upper Jurassic rocks and in the Brent group in Middle Jurassic rocks, the company said.

The well proved oil and gas in the Sognefjord formation and oil in the Brent group. Extensive data acquisition and sampling have been carried out in both reservoir zones.

The size of the discoveries in the two reservoirs is estimated at a total of 6-30 million standard cubic metres of recoverable oil equivalents.
