Swedish independent Lundin Petroleum has begun drilling at the Petrovskaya-1 exploration well in the northern Caspian Sea.
The well in the Lagansky Block will be drilled to 2,100m to test the Petrovskaya structure, the company said.
Gross unrisked prospective resources at the structure are estimated at 300 million barrels of oil equivalent.
Petrovskaya follows Lundin’s 2008 Morskaya discovery in the same exploration block in the Russian part of the Caspian Sea.
Morskaya holds 230 million barrels of oil equivalent in estimated recoverable resources.
