Kosmos Energy said it has discovered light oil in the Mahogany Deep-2 well, offshore Ghana on the West Cape Three Points Block.
The Mahogany Deep-2 is the furthest down-dip appraisal well drilled on the West Cape Three Points license by the company to date at water depths of 1,354m.
The well discovered 15m of combined pay in high-quality sandstones, according to results of drilling, wireline logs and reservoir fluid samples.
The well was drilled using the Aban Abraham drillship.
Additional studies by the company and its block partners will be conducted to assess the existing and new zones found in the well.
Kosmos, operator of the West Cape Three Points Block, holds 30% stake, followed by Anadarko Petroleum affiliate with 30% stake, Tullow Oil affiliate with 22% stake, EO Group, 3.5% stake, Sabre Oil & Gas, 1.854% stake and GNPC with a 10% carried interest.
