Newfield Production has suspended oil production at its East Belumut field offshore Malaysia due to subsea pipeline damage.

Newfield said the subsea pipeline connecting the East Belumut platform on PM 323 to the Tinggi platform 17 miles away was damaged by an unidentified marine vessel unrelated to Newfield operations.

East Belumut, located approximately 160 miles offshore Peninsular Malaysia in 240ft of water, was producing about 20,000 barrels of oil per day gross prior to the shut-in, Newfield said.

The company estimates repairs to the pipeline will take up to eight weeks to complete.

Newfield expects that its deferred production for the third quarter of 2010 will be in the range of 0.5 million-0.6 million barrels, bringing its 2010 production levels to the lower end of its guidance range of 283 billion-288 billion cubic feet equivalent.

Newfield has a 60% operating interest in PM 323.
