E.ON Ruhrgas has begun production at its Babbage gas field in the Southern North Sea, UK.
The Babbage field, located approximately 80km off the UK coast, is expected to produce more than five billion cubic metres of natural gas with a field life of 20 years.
The $458m field is being developed in two phases. The first phase involves the installation of the Babbage platform, drilling three production wells and laying a 28km pipeline, while the second phase includes two additional wells.
E.ON Ruhrgas has a 47% operating interest in the Babbage field while Dana Petroleum holds a 40% stake. The rest is owned by Centrica Resources.
