Brazil’s National Petroleum Agency (NPA) has shut down an oil platform operated by state oil company Petrobras following a small fire.

NPA said that Petrobras was ordered to halt operations at the P-33 rig in the Campos Basin’s Marlim Field as a safety precaution.

Petrobras said the fire was caused by a leak in a vapour pipe on the P-35 platform, also operating in the Campos Basin, but that it did not interrupt operations or cause any personal or material damage.

The platform has had a series of malfunctions in the past two months, highlighting safety concerns at the company’s offshore facilities.

NPA said it will carry out an inspection of the 20,000bopd P-33 platform.
