Woodside Petroleum has found gas in its Alaric-1 exploration well offshore Western Australia.

Woodside, Australia’s second-largest oil and gas producer, said the Alaric-1 well in permit WA-434-P has intersected about 185m of gas and preliminary analysis suggests the gas could be rich in liquids.

The Alaric-1 well, situated 400km off the Australian coast, is located in Woodside’s Claudius hub and extends the area of the known gas province in the Greater Carnarvon Basin.
