Greenland has given permission to Cairn Energy to drill two additional deepwater exploration wells off the island’s west coast.
Cairn Energy started drilling two other wells in the same area on 1 July.
The Government of Greenland said the drilling must cease before drift ice appears in the area, reports The Associated Press.
Drilling for oil and gas offshore Greenland resumed in 2001 after a previous effort failed to find oil three decades ago.
Explorations so far in deep ocean off the west coast of Greenland has been unsuccessful.
