Chevron has made a significant gas find in the Carnarvon Basin offshore Western Australia, the company’s ninth and largest discovery in the region in a year.

The Acme-1 exploration well, drilled in 878m of water to a depth of 4,715m, has encountered 273m of net gas pay, Chevron said.

The Acme-1 exploration discovery well is located in the WA-205-P permit area offshore Western Australia, approximately 93 miles from Onslow.

Chevron’s Australian subsidiary is the operator of WA-205-P with a combined 67% interest, while Shell Development Australia holds the remaining interest.
