Woodside Petroleum has announced a second gas discovery in Western Australia in the space of a week.

The Larsen Deep-1 well in permit WA-404-P, which is located in Western Australia’s Carnarvon Basin, has intersected approximately 50m of gross gas over several zones within the Triassic target.

The well is currently being drilled at 4,914m and will be drilled to a total depth of 5,030m.

Larsen Deep-1, which is owned in a joint venture with Hess Corp, is located within 9km of Woodside’s existing Central hub discoveries at Martell-1, Noblige-1 and Larsen-1.

On 16 August Woodside reported a 185m column gas find at the Alaric-1 well in the Carnarvon Basin.
