A discovery has been made on Noreco’s Zidane-1 well, offshore Norway.

The Zidane-1 well in licence PL 435 is still in operation and further data will have to be gathered and analysed before an estimate of the resource potential can be made, the company said.

A production test of the well is expected to be completed within two to three weeks.

Noreco earlier said the prospect, which is located in water 369m deep, could hold 100 million to 155 million barrels of oil equivalent.

The well is being drilled with the Bredford Dolphin rig and drilling is expected to be complete in September.

RWE Dea Norge operates the licence with a 40% interest, while the rest is owned by Noreco, Edison International Norway and Maersk Oil, each holding a 20% stake.
