Gazprom has discovered a new gas field in the Kirinsky block of the Sakhalin-3 project, which is located off the Russian Pacific island.

The company said a natural gas inflow was reported during prospecting activities in exploratory well No.1, which was drilled to a depth of 2,795m.

Production from the Kirinsky block is expected to begin in 2011 or 2012.

Gazprom is planning more exploration works in the area over the next three years in order to evaluate the resources.

Total Sakhalin-3 resources and reserves amount to 1.4 trillion cubic metres, Gazprom said.
