Anadarko Petroleum Corporation has found oil in the Owo-1 sidetrack well, offshore Ghana.

The Owo-1 well encountered 115 net feet of pay, which includes 52 net feet of high-quality oil pay that appears to be in pressure communication with the Owo-1 discovery well, Anadarko said.

The well also encountered an additional 43 net feet of condensate pay and 20 net feet of natural gas pay in a deeper sandstone section beneath the primary objective.

The Owo-1 sidetrack was drilled to a total depth of 13,120ft in water depths of 4,685ft in the deepwater Tano block.

Anadarko Petroleum senior vice president Bob Daniels said the Owo-1 sidetrack results confirm the existence of a very significant oil accumulation that will be further appraised in the coming months.

Tullow Oil has a 49.5% working interest in the Tano block, while Anadarko holds an 18% working interest.

The other partners in the project include Kosmos Energy with an 18% working interest, Sabre Oil & Gas with 4.05% and Ghana National Petroleum with 10%.
