Kuwait is considering increasing oil production in the country’s northern fields to 850,000 barrels per day by the end of 2010.

The state-owned Kuwait Oil Company is reportedly in negotiations with several foreign companies to further develop the northern fields.

Kuwait, the largest exporter of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries with 10% of the world’s proven oil reserves, produces around 2.3 million barrels per day.

The country is looking to increase its oil production to four million barrels per day by 2020, reported the Kuwait Times.
