The Libyan Government has extended Hess‘ exploration and production licence for Area 54, which is located off the coast of Libya.

The licence was extended for five years to allow Hess to carry out appraisal operations and additional exploration programmes, reports Reuters.

Area 54 is located about 300 miles off the Libyan coast in the Sirte basin where Hess discovered hydrocarbons in 2008 in the Arous Al-Bahar prospect.
