Portugal’s Galp has confirmed an estimated recoverable volume of five billion to eight billion barrels of light oil and gas in a Tupi well, offshore Brazil.

Well 3-RJS-678, in the pre-salt area of Santos Basin, is operated by Petrobras and includes investment from BG Group and Galp.

Galp said the well confirms that the oil accumulation extends to the extreme south of the Tupi Evaluation Plan area, while the oil reservoir’s thickness reaches 128m.

Well 3-RJS-678, which is 290km off the Rio de Janeiro coastline, was drilled at a water depth of 2,152m.
