Aker Solutions has been awarded a contract to provide a deepwater drilling riser system to Atwood Oceanics, an oil and gas explorer based in Texas, US.
The system will be manufacturered from Aker’s manufacturing facility in Port Klang, Malaysia, and will be ready for delivery in 2013. The value of the contract has not been disclosed.
Thor Arne Håverstad, Aker Solutions drilling technologies business head, said: "We are very pleased to be delivering an Aker Solutions CLIP riser system to Atwood for the fifth time."
The firm has previously delivered risers to the Atwood Osprey and Atwood Condor drilling units, and another two drilling riser systems are currently being produced for the Atwood Advantage and Atwood Achiever units.
Aker Solutions drilling riser business senior vice president Tom Munkejord said the CLIP riser’s technology provides the drilling operator with a faster connection and disconnection of the riser joints, which improves operational efficiency and safety.
"The drilling riser from Aker Solutions can be disconnected and pulled out of the water in half the time it takes to remove a traditional riser, which saves the operator time and money," said Munkejord.
