UK-based supplier of offshore engineering services and centraliser products Aquaterra Energy has acquired the business and assets of Hyco, a German hydraulic control system supplier.

Aquaterra plans to use Hyco’s technical ability, product knowledge and rapid response capabilities to further enhance its ability to deliver specialist engineering solutions for a variety of drilling rig and platform requirements.

Aquaterra’s new corporate identity, launched in September 2012, will be applied throughout the entire Hyco business.

Hyco founding director, Jim Watters, said the products developed by the company have filled the gap for reliable hydraulic solutions in the market.

"We now have a great opportunity to expand the market reach of our products, as part of Aquaterra Energy’s impressive team," Watters added.

Aquaterra Energy managing director, Patrick Phelan, said: "The completion of this acquisition marks an important milestone in our business development strategy, adding even greater depth and strength to our Riser Systems engineering solutions and extending the scope of our service and rental business stream."

In November 2012, Aquaterra Energy received a contract to design and install 260 centralisers for BP Azerbaijan.

As part of the contract, the company provided pre-engineering for the casing requirements and devised a centraliser package for the tieback operations.

In 2009, the company designed and fabricated a ‘skidding system’ for installation on a vessel to transport transition pieces to offshore wind farms.
