Canada-based oil firm Bengal Energy has begun drilling operations at the Kingtree exploration well, which is located in the AC/P 24 permit, offshore Australia.

The first well in this prospect is being drilled using the semi-submersible rig Ocean Patriot at a total depth of 1,472m.

The well will evaluate a large, shallow structure on the basis of multiple 3D and 2D seismic data on the permit in the Vulcan sub-basin of the Timor Sea off the north-west coast of Australia.

In addition, it will also study the extent of the potential hydrocarbon deposits in the area and provide valuable information to determine the total amount of hydrocarbons.

Bengal holds a 10% working interest in the prospect and Permit AC/P 24.
