BP has extended its maintenance and modification contract with Aker Solutions for five Norwegian fields.

The contract is estimated to be in the range of $141m to $211m and covers the Ula, Valhall, Skarv, Hod and Tambar fields.

In the existing agreement, the maintenance and modification contract exercises an option first signed in 2005 to last until April 2014.

Aker Solutions head of maintenance, modifications and operations business Tore Sjursen said the extension ensures the basis for its continued relationship with BP.

"This is an important contract for the build up of our activities in Sandnessjøen," added Sjursen.

The scope of work under the contract includes maintenance support services and brownfield modification projects covering engineering, procurement, fabrication and offshore installation.

Maintenance and modifications work will aim to help increase oil recovery rate and extend the life of BP’s fields.

BP Norway’s largest field, Valhall, which came on stream in 1982, is expected to produce oil until 2050, even though it is one of the oldest fields on the Norwegian continental shelf.

Aker Solutions MMO and BP Norway are the contract parties for the project.
