Russian oil producer Lukoil Holdings and a group led by ExxonMobil have placed bids for oil and gas exploration in the Skifska field located in Ukraine’s Black Sea.
In June 2012, Ukraine invited bids from potential partners for two fields, which include Foroska and Skifska on the Black Sea shelf.
Ukraine Ecology and Natural Resources Minister Eduard Stavitsky told journalists in the area that they received two bids – one from Lukoil Overseas, and Exxon Mobil made a general bid for a group of companies which include Shell, Petrom and Nadra Ukrainy.
"There had been no bids for the Foroska field and a new tender for exploration there would be postponed for a while," Stavitsky added.
The Skifska field has a potential yield of three to four billion cubic metres of hydrocarbons, and the Foroska field two to three billion cubic metres, reports oilandgaseurasia.com.
The tender is in line with the Kiev’s government’s strategy of moving away from reliance on energy imports from Russia.
