Lundin Petroleum subsidiary Lundin Norway has announced it will permanently plug and abandon the dry Clapton exploration well located in the southern part of the North Sea.

"Lundin Norway owns an 18% interest in PL440S, whose operator Faeroe Petroleum holds a 40% stake."

Exploration well 2/8-18S, part of the PL440S licence, was drilled to a vertical depth of 2,619m below the sea surface and was terminated in Cretaceous rocks of the Hidra Formation.

Lundin Norway employed the jack-up rig Maersk Guardian to drill the well, whose primary exploration target was to identify hydrocarbons in chalks of the Shetland Group.

The well encountered reservoir rocks as expected in the Shetland Group, but reservoir properties were poorer than expected.

Lundin Norway owns an 18% interest in PL440S, whose operator Faeroe Petroleum holds a 40% stake. Other partners include Dana with a 20% interest, Noreco with a 12% stake and Det Norske with a ten percent interest.
