Lundin Petroleum has started drilling the 16/2-10 appraisal well on the Espevær / Aldous Major South structure, offshore Norway.

Located in production licence 265, the well will be drilled to a vertical water depth of 2,132m using the Transocean Leader rig.

The main objective is to test the northern continuation of the Aldous Major South discovery and the western extension of the Avaldsnes discovery in PL501.

Drilling is expected to be completed within 50 days.

Lundin Petroleum holds a 10% stake in PL265, while Statoil Petroleum holds 40%, Petoro holds 30% and Det norske oljeselskap has 20%.
