Swedish-based Lundin Petroleum has encountered 25m of oil at a second appraisal well located in the Avaldsnes field on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.
The oil was discovered in sidetrack 16/2-7A in the well, which is located in license PL501.
The sidetrack was drilled to a total depth of 2,100m, using the semi-submersible drilling rig Bredford Dolphin.
Oil was discovered in the Upper Jurassic reservoir, of which 17m net was above the oil water contact.
Lundin Norway holds a 40% interest in PL501, while Statoil Petroleum, Maersk Oil Norway hold 40% and 20% interests, respectively.
