Joint venture partners New Guinea Energy and Talisman Energy have made a new hydrocarbon discovery in the Forelands basin in western Papua New Guinea.

Preliminary logging results of the hydrocarbons discovered from the Siphon-1 exploration well show an 11m gross hydrocarbon interval in the primary Toro reservoir target and another 12m gross column in the overlying Elevala sand.

The company will carry out wireline logging to interpret the significance of the hydrocarbon indications, reports upstreamonline.com.

The Siphon-1 well is drilled in block PPL 269, which is equally owned by the joint venture partners.
