France-based Technip has been awarded a service contract by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) for the Ichthys floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit.

The unit will be located in the Browse Basin, Western Australia, at a water depth of 250m.

"The project will be executed by Technip’s operating centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia."

Under the terms of the contract, the company will provide detailed engineering and procurement assistance for the topsides facilities of the FPSO, which has 1.2 million barrels worth of storage capacity.

Gas from the Ichthys field project, a joint venture between Inpex and Total, will undergo preliminary processing offshore to remove water and extract condensate.

It will then be exported to onshore processing facilities in Darwin through an 889km subsea pipeline.

The project will produce 8.4 million tons of LNG and 1.6 million tons of LPG a year, and will have a peak rate of 100,000 barrels of condensate a day, said Technip.

The project will be executed by Technip’s operating centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
