Niobrara Shale witnessed a decrease of 1.76% in total oil and gas production to 4,70,307.54 boe/d in May 2020 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s USL48 database.

The oil and gas production in Niobrara declined 9.16% in May 2020 from 5,17,718.71 boe/d in May 2019. On a YTD basis, the total oil and gas production in the play decreased by 7.4% from the same period in 2019.

In Niobrara, oil production declined 6.34% in May 2020 as compared with the previous month, while gas production decreased by 1.42% to 2,547.83 mmcf/d.

On a YTD basis, oil production in the play decreased by 9.91% in 2020 when compared with the same period in 2019, while gas production declined by 7.21%. Out of the total oil and gas production in May 2020, oil held a 6.6% share, while gas had a 93.4% share.


In Niobrara, Ultra Petroleum emerged as the largest oil and gas producer, recording a total oil and gas production at 1,73,725.55 boe/d in May 2020, a decrease of 1.94% from the previous month. The company held a 21.82% share in oil production and 38.01% share in gas production in May 2020.

On a YTD basis, the company registered an 18.39% decrease in total oil and gas production from the same period in 2019.



Compared with other counties within Niobrara Shale, Sublette county recorded the highest oil and gas production, holding a 62.44% share in May 2020. The county witnessed a 2.95% decrease in production to 2,93,646.2 boe/d in May 2020 when compared with the previous month.

On a YTD basis, it registered a decline of 10.19% in total production from the same period in 2019.
