Umbilical

Norwegian oil services company Aker Solutions has been awarded a contract from Anadarko Petroleum to provide eight steel tube umbilicals for the Lucius field, in the Gulf of Mexico.

The Lucius field lies 442km south-west of Louisiana, US, in Keathley Canyon blocks 874, 875 and 919, in a water depth of 2,100m.

Aker will be responsible for the project management, design, engineering and manufacturing of two electro/hydraulic dynamic production umbilicals, three electro/hydraulic infield umbilicals and one gas lift infield umbilicals. The contract also includes all associated ancillary equipment required for installation and interface with the development. Aker Subsea was appointed the contract party for Aker Solutions.

The umbilicals will use the patented Aker Solutions PVC profile matrix, which provides predictable estimates of fatigue and friction, and improved crush and impact resistance.

Aker Solutions executive vice-president Tove Røskaft said the contract is a step towards the company’s goal of supplying equipment for Anadarko across many product lines, including umbilicals. The value of the contract was not disclosed.

The management, engineering and manufacturing of the umbilicals will take place at Aker Solutions’ facility in Mobile, in the US state of Alabama. Final deliveries of the umbilicals will be made in the third quarter of 2013.

In other deals, Aker Solutions received an engineering, procurement, construction and installation contract from Talisman Energy for its maintenance and modifications projects in the North Sea.

The company has also entered a Nkr210m ($35m) contract with Marathon Oil Norge to supply a subsea production system for the operator’s Boyla project on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.
