Kongsberg Oil & Gas Technologies has secured a contract to carry out an extended concept study and pre-front end engineering design (FEED) for Statoil’s Johan Castberg project in the Barents Sea.

The project will include the development of the Skrugard, Havis and Drivis oil fields in production licence 532, around 230km north-west of North Cape, with water depths ranging between 360m and 405m.

The contract continues the concept design work Kongsberg completed in June.

Under the extension, Kongsberg will deliver integrated engineering services required for the conceptual design and pre-FEED design of the in-field flowline systems and riser system.

The work is expected to be completed in June 2015.

The proven volumes in Johan Castberg are estimated to be in the range of 400 to 600 million barrels of oil.

Statoil operates the production licence PL532 with a 50% stake, while Eni Norge and Petoro hold 30% and 20% interests respectively.
