Oando Energy Services Limited (OESL) has been awarded a two year drilling contract for its swamp rig OES Passion for operations in the Niger Delta.
The N12bn deal has been awarded by Anglo-Dutch supermajor Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) and brings the total number of rigs Oando Energy has in operation to three, following the deployment of the OES Integrity in 2009 and the OES Teamwork in 2010.

The OES Passion is a swamp barge with sequential well drilling capabilities, as well as a skidding system that allows it to drill up to six wells in one location.
The rig, formerly under the name Parker 75, entered into service in 1999 and is able to drill down 25,000ft, in water depths of up to 16ft.
To ensure optimum performance, OESL committed to a comprehensive lifetime enhancement programme after purchasing the rig in 2009. This upgrade included the restoration of the cantilever skidding system, which is expected to save the client up to 30 days for every six wells drilled. In addition, it also significantly reduces the overall cost of drilling campaigns.
