Under the contract, Gate will undertake pre-commissioning and commissioning planning and execution of the offshore platform at HHI’s fabrication yard in Ulsan, South Korea.

Gate Energy CEO Lee Jordan said: “We are excited to build on our prior working relationship with HHI and our footprints in South Korea, Mexico and the US to support delivery of the first oil production facility for Mexico’s deepwater acreage in the Gulf of Mexico. This will represent a substantial milestone for Woodside and is a key step in unlocking the full potential of the basin for the Mexican people.”

With the capacity to produce 100,000 barrels of crude oil and 4.1 million cubic metres of natural gas per day, the FPU is due to be constructed in South Korea. It is scheduled to start production in 2028.

The FPU will be deployed at an oilfield 180km off the east coast of Mexico.
