UK-based Servelec Controls has secured a contract to provide a remote operations solution for Centrica’s unmanned offshore gas platform, DP6.
The project is expected to extend the life and commercial viability of the ageing asset. It will involve removal of the redundant plant and replace obsolete equipment with new systems designed by Servelec.

Upon completion, Centrica intends to maximise the value of its asset through a cost-effective maintenance programme.
The project is also expected to improve personnel safety by decreasing intervention time.

The remote operations and monitoring solution designed by Servelec comprises a distributed control system (DCS), emergency shutdown (ESD) function, and systems to detect fire, gas, and smoke.
Upon completion, all these components will be monitored and controlled from an onshore operations centre.
The Sevelec solution is aligned with the UK Oil & Gas Authority’s Maximising Economic Recovery strategy, which sets decommissioning as the last resort to encourage operators to focus on sustainable value adding initiatives.
