Oil major Shell has opened a new major technology centre in Bangalore, India, to expand its research and development activities in Asia.
The Shell Technology Centre Bangalore (STCB), located in an area of 52 acres, will be able to accommodate 1,500 experts who will work and collaborate on innovative projects worldwide.

The custom-built technology centre will bring together all R&D staff who previously worked at different offices in Bangalore.
The centre will provide additional space for high-tech innovation and demonstration facilities.
The company expects that this technology hub will create new opportunities for multi-disciplinary collaboration, as well as drive relevant and affordable innovations.

It will house a wide spectrum of technical disciplines and specific expertise in fields such as liquefied natural gas, sub-surface modelling, data analysis, engineering design, bitumen, distillation and enhanced computational research.
The centre will help to turn forestry, agricultural and municipal waste into transportation fuels.
Specialists at Shell Technology Centre Bangalore will work closely with experts from external industrial partners, universities and institutes.
Shell Technology Centre Bangalore is one of the three main technology hubs in the company’s global network of R&D centres, with the other two located in the Netherlands and the US.
