Qatar Petroleum (QP) has joined an international consortium comprising major oil companies to develop a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import project in Pakistan, in collaboration with Global Energy Infrastructure Limited (GEIL).
In addition to QP, the consortium includes Total, Mitsubishi, ExxonMobil and Höegh.

The LNG project will have a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), a jetty and a connecting pipeline.
The facility will ensure a timely and reliable natural gas supply to Pakistan.
FSRU will have a minimum regasification capacity of 750 million cubic feet per day by 2018.

Pakistan has an established gas market and distribution system with a huge demand for natural gas.
Natural gas is a cost-effective alternative to conventional fuels.
After completion, the project will provide reliable natural gas supplies to public and private sectors in Pakistan.
With the FSRU being committed, the consortium is advancing through the necessary technical and commercial milestones.
