Wood Group has secured a contract with Shell Australia’s Prelude floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) project in Australia.

Under the three-year deal, the company’s unit Wood Group Kenny will provide consultancy services for flexible riser integrity management of Prelude FLNG before and during its operation.

The FLNG will be located 475km north-north-east of Broome in Western Australia.

The contract will primarily focus on the development and implementation of the flexible riser integrity management plan, in addition to providing inspection, monitoring, testing and on-call engineering support.

Wood Group Kenny provides subsea operations and integrity support, and will service the contract using local expertise from its office in Perth, Australia.

The Technip / Samsung Consortium (TSC) is building the $10bn Prelude FLNG in South Korea for a joint venture between Royal Dutch Shell, KOGAS, and Inpex.

The unit is 488m-long, 74m-wide, and is made with more than 260,000t of steel.

Once constructed, the facility will be towed to its location, some 475km north-east of Broome, Western Australia, and will be moored and connected to the undersea infrastructure.

Prelude FLNG has been designed to withstand powerful tropical cyclones and will remain permanently moored at the location for around 20-25 years.
