Capstone Turbine’s oil and gas distributor in China Top-Well Services has secured an order to provide 2MW of clean power for an undisclosed offshore oil company operating in the South China Sea.
The order was for two C1000 microturbines, which will be installed on an existing offshore oil production platform.

The contract is expected to be commissioned in mid-2016.
Capstone Turbine president and CEO Darren Jamison said: "The associated gas market continues to develop globally as oil and gas operators convert this on-site waste gas stream into clean onsite power generation.
"I think we are seeing the markets in Asia become more sensitive to environmental emissions and pollution in general, which better aligns them with our core value proposition."
The microturbines will provide electrical power to meet the oil platform’s production demands, while minimising the emissions from its conventional flare stack.

The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) expects China to account for 43% of liquid fuel consumption growth in non-OECD Asia.
The South China Sea is a potential source of hydrocarbons, particularly natural gas and stretches from Singapore and the Strait of Malacca in the south-west to the Strait of Taiwan in the north-east.
